Median

While we haven’t really advertised our Internal CMS system ’Median’, we have been developing it internally and for clients since 2002. While it didn’t really come into it’s own until 2004, it is now taking a form beyond it’s humble beginnings.

Originally, it was built only to handle the server-side publishing of XML content for dynamic Flash sites. Slowly, we added features and features. Realizing that the core code was aging a bit, we decided to do a complete re-write in 2007.

Median features Paging, Categories/Sections, Articles, Client Controls, Commenting, Voting/Rating, a Presentation System, Multi-User Role Management, RSS output, and general Asset Management. It also includes an API for grabbing XML formatted data for Flash — while not true Web Services (we’re working on this possibility), it does allow the flexibility to send published content to flash and to html at the same time. Publishing an XHTML site along side a Flash version with shared data won’t be much of a nightmare anymore. Also, If the site uses Flash widgets or smaller components, the XHTML templates can use the API to send specific data to those as well, all within the normal site flow without having to write external XML or data files. True Hybrid? Yes. Happy WWL? Yes. What it really means: A super Simple Content Management System with loads of standard features available for site content (Flash or XHTML).

Now, we are adding a Median based shopping cart API that can be utilized by the core Median templates as well as additional Flash API updates.

We’ll keep you posted.
