Interactive map of architecture from downtown Los Angeles to Santa Monica along the famous and historical Wilshire Blvd. is still one of our favorite projects we’ve ever worked on. It involves maps, history, architecture, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, Wilshire Blvd., humanity, photos, information, and story telling for a good cause.
Techincal Notes: The buildings are placed on the map dynamically from a visual GUI that tracks X and Y coordinates. All building data is stored in the database and can be updated via a custom CMS. The map itself is a a vector image that is nearly 6000 px wide and is scaled appropriately for the view finder. A user can navigate via drop-down, clicking a mini-map, dragging the map, selecting a building, zoom in, zoom out, zoom to a building, and zoom to a location on the map. Resizing the browser will center the entire area as well.
Huge props to Nikolai Cornell and Casey Sheehan
